The Tang Teaching Museum collection is central to the museum’s mission of object-based learning and a stimulus for interdisciplinary teaching and learning.
Our collection, which includes more than 17,000 objects representing a wide variety of materials, subject matter, and time periods, is available to Skidmore faculty, staff, and students, as well as visitors, for class use, research, inspiration, discussion, and more. It is filled with oddities of material culture and masterworks by renowned contemporary artists alike.
Examples of the many ways in which our collection is used can be found on these pages: exhibitions; musical, theatrical, and dance performances; visual artistic responses; and original writing and scholarship by Tang curators, Skidmore faculty and students, and other creative voices. We welcome and embrace new perspectives to our collection, both personal and scholarly, and hope these collection pages will serve to enrich the physical museum experience.
Classes from any discipline at Skidmore College may reserve the Kettlewell Print Study Room and Permanent Collections Storage Area by contacting Nora Riccio, Collections Registrar, at nriccio@skidmore.edu or 518-580-5547. Faculty interested in viewing objects should contact Tang staff at least two weeks in advance to plan their visit. Public access to these areas is also available by appointment.
